Asian Adventure (n-I)

Our final day in Hong Kong, and indeed in SE Asia, was spent touring the city. We enjoyed bubble tea on the sea front, a ferry ride across the harbour, a trip up the peak and finished it off as the sun set on the harbour front. We went straight to the airport that evening, emptying our octopus cards along the way, as our flight was at 3am.

Asian Adventure Part (n - II)

Our penultimate day in Asia was Max's Birthday, in honour of which we went to Disneyland Hong Kong. Now its a long time since I went to Disneyland Paris when I was 8, thirteen years to be precise, and I had entirely forgotten what good fun Disneyland was. The Hong Kong Park was precisely the right size for the day and after countless go's on Space Mountain, almost all the shows and a great firework display we were all Disneyed out. Asian Adventure Part (n - III)

After the luxurious experience of Shenzehn we crossed the border into Hong Kong, a relatively painless experience. The incredibly efficient metro whisked us into town (using our new Octopus cards to pay...) and with a little difficulty found our hostel (hiding on the 7th floor of a tower block) in Kowloon (cue Bourne Supremacy based excitement from me). We were scheduled to meet up with an old friend Anne Shen in Hong Kong; Anne was an MIT exchange student who was at King's during our second year, she joined us on the King's Affair 2010 Committee and the rest, to use a cliche, is history... Anne was a little delayed in getting to HK so we had a quick explore of the local area and were soon in a world of shopping malls and tannoys with English accents! Having finally rendezvoused with Anne we set off to Hong Kong Island for a wander, and to scale the worlds longest escalator (bit of a let down) and finally see the harbour lights show. Cue photos...

Asian Adventure Part??

I don't have all that many photos from Shenzhen, we caught the train there from Guangzhou and were met by Wis' dad upon our arrival. He showed us the greatest hospitality, giving us a brief tour of the city, showing us his place of work, and putting us up in a lovely hotel. Best of all he took us to his apartment, cooked us a gorgeous dinner and was a fantastic and interesting host! Anyhow a few pics below; next (and final!) stop, Hong Kong!

Lumiere

This weekend my hometown, Durham, hosted the Lumiere Festival - this involved various artistic lighting installations spread through the town centre. I took the opportunity to head home: to spend time with my family, enjoy some home cooking, and see the sights. I won't witter on any longer but suffice to say the art was fantastic and the atmosphere on the streets was marvellous.

As a final note I think I should point out that these photos were mostly taken on my iPhone as I had forgotten to take my compact North (apologies for the lower resolution/dodgy focus in places). It just goes to show what cameras on phones can achieve these days and to be honest it handled the large range between light and shade almost as well as my dad's DSLR did.
